BEST PERFORMERS: MAKE-UP FOR WOMEN OVER 50

It’s no surprise that women in 2018 are finally beginning to truly embrace their natural beauty, as well as the aging process. After all, why shouldn’t we? Instead of seeking beauty treatments, more and more women are turning to self-confidence and instead, discovering they’re beautiful all on their own.

But that doesn’t make finding makeup that allows women over 50 to look and feel even more vibrant any less tricky! Application techniques we’ve been using for years may suddenly start to fail as our skin changes, and our favorite products may begin to detract, rather than enhance our true beauty. Have you experienced this, darlings?

Mature skin tends to be more on the dry side and all those mattifying and pore-minimizing products that have been our go-to’s may suddenly stop delivering like their hydrating and highlighting counterparts.

Today, I’ve decided to share some techniques and products I use to keep my skin looking fresh for both day and nighttime!

Enhancing for Daytime

As we’ve discussed previously on the blog, eyebrows begin to thin over time. This is not something you did; it happens to us all! Instead of worrying about, embrace it!

Simply filling them in, not with a pencil, but with a powder, is a great (and easy) fix. Plus, it will look more like the real thing. Try choosing a shade that is close to your actual brow color, not darker.

If you like eyeliner, apply it by gently tapping a black eyeshadow directly on your lash line with an angled brush, like the one here. This will create a line that makes you look more awake without seeming overwhelming. The same can be said of mascara. One coat is often enough to thicken your lashes, so let your natural beauty steal some of the spotlights too.

For the rest of your face, try going for a dewy look. Opting for a matte powder foundation can flatten the face, so instead, choose a concealer and a foundation with a sheen. Let those rosy cheeks shine! And try only applying foundation where you feel you really need it, for instance, on red spots, areas with discoloration, or where you may have some hyperpigmentation.

YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint Foundation

Try this product for a look that attracts light wherever you apply it! You can purchase some here with free shipping.

Finally, lip liner keeps lipstick in place, even as your lips begin to crinkle. Do your best to match your liner to your favorite lipstick shade, or if you’re feeling bold, try even going a shade darker!

Bringing the Intensity for Nighttime

If you like keeping your makeup routine simple, you’re going to love this quick and easy guide to applying makeup for a night out. All you have to do is simply build on the basics you applied earlier in the day!

You can afford to do a thicker layer of blush after the sun goes down. If you’re looking to incorporate something new (and fun) into your routine, you may opt for a cream blush, which will give your skin the natural flush it deserves. Plus, there’s no brush required. Simply use your fingers to tap on a thin layer, then repeat.

If you’re looking to go bold for your night on the town, apply a darker coat of black eyeshadow along your lash line. If the skin on your upper lid is starting to get loose, consider keeping the line a little lighter to avoid making your eyes look tired.

When it comes to mascara, just toss on another layer, avoiding a really dark shade along your lower lash line because it can emphasize dark circles. Instead, try using champagne or bronze.

Finally, purchase a moisturizing matte formula lipstick. It’s an investment well made, as it allows you to get into the small folds and to be precise at the same time, which as you know is important after 50, once our lips begin to get fine wrinkles along the edges. But remember, we earned them!

That’s It!

You really can achieve a beautiful, natural look with just a few products that carry you from day to night. And the best part is that the routine is a breeze. But if you’re still wondering where to start, I’ve listed a few products, specifically for visible women over 50, below, to help simplify your routine today!
