The Buzz: Who is in Your Moai?

The Buzz: Who is in Your Moai?

This week in the New York Times, I read a story that begged the question, “Are your friendships giving you a boost or bringing you down?”

It made me stop and think about whether I was spending my time and energy with the right people for my health and happiness, as friends can have a measurable and ongoing influence on health behaviors.

But what really struck me was a point they made about a group called a moai… let me explain.

In Okinawa, Japan, the average life expectancy for women is 90 years young! This is one of the oldest in the world, and it is attributed to the fact that people in this part of the world form a kind of social network called a moai, or a group of friends who offer social and emotional support for a lifetime.

The group benefits when things go well, but also when things go wrong, as they are always there for each other.

When I read this, I thought of all of you!

While most of these moais are formed at birth so these women can take a lifelong journey together, I still couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of love for the Honey Good community and all the health and happiness it has brought me over the years.

I am so thankful for each and every one of you, and I hope you get as much out of this beautiful group of strong, visible women as I do. You are such a blessing in my life. Thank you for everything.

For those of you who may have missed any of this week’s stories on the blog, here is the week in review!
