Darling, what a week it has been… especially for the people in the USA.
I just want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who commented on my blog post this Tuesday titled, “I Hope Elsewhere Goes Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
I talk about topics that can sometimes get heated, and I read every single one of the 40+ comments. And, I love it when you interact with me and I enjoy it when you share your opinions so we can discuss and talk. We all have different opinions, and it’s important we share and discuss them, together.
I hope you all have a good weekend, and stay safe. Maybe even watch a Hallmark Christmas movie to get you into the Holiday Spirit.

Susan: The comment you made about educators was offensive to both myself and my children. I was a teacher for over 35 years. Both of my children are educators. As most teachers will testify we do not have nine to five jobs. We arrive early and stay late at school. We attend our students’ athletic events, academic competitions, cultural/religious events and sponsor activities without any monetary compensation. Teachers spend of lot of their salary on their classrooms and students. It’s not unusual for teachers to buy clothing, supplies, even food for their student’s families with their own limited income. We teach the curriculum standards that the state has developed and issued to us. I live in a red state so the standards are developed by the respective party. Teachers take courses at their own expense to renew their certification and to keep current on new techniques. In my many years of being a teacher, I have never discussed my political views. I have allowed them the opportunity to state their opinions and allow others to respond to these opinions always in an environment that stresses respect. In other words, I respectively disagree with your assessment of teachers as being all socialists – a term that I think is used to freely today.
Dear Lera, I respect teachers and I apologize to you and your daughters. Your comment is written with dignity and respect and I commend you and thank you.I can understand how you are insulted and I am embarrassed that you felt I was referring to teachers as Socialists. It never entered my mind. I was thinking about my State of Illinois and our politicians manner off handling education. It is not a pretty picture. In my wildest dreams I would never have the audacity to attach Socialism to a teacher. I wish I had been able to express myself in a clearer manner. I am fervent about education. When my first born, Jenny, was about to enter school for the first time, my girlfriend and I started a Montessori Shool. I know the children in your class and each of your daughter’s class are very fortunate to have all of you as their teachers. I will be more careful with my words. Thank you for ‘teaching’ me.
