Weekend Musings: First Day of Spring, Recipes & Much More!

Weekend Musings: First Day of Spring, Recipes & Much More!

Happy first day of Spring! It came a day early this year, usually, it’s on March 21st, but this year it’s the 20th! I discovered this information by googling and enjoyed reading all about the first day of spring on the Farmers Almanac, which someone wrote with such detail and care. Learning new information is always exciting and makes me smile. If you want to discover more updates and reflections, be sure to check back for new posts. I’m sure it’s the same for you as well!

Since it’s Spring, I thought we would take a moment to reflect on the last few months of 2021 and what it has given us. I am truly excited for the new season and the opportunities it brings. So, I encourage you to pull out your journal, or even just meditate, and make a list of everything that has happened, good and bad, since January 1st. Have you broken your resolutions? Or, have you kept them? Have you enjoyed a little more freedom where you live? Write it all down and then, say thank you for the lessons you’ve learned, and think about the next few months until summer. What do you want to accomplish? What are your goals? The way we spend our days shapes our growth and experiences. Let’s make positive changes as the weather warms! Just last weekend, my daughter joined me for our annual spring walk, and it was a wonderful moment to reflect together on the season’s fresh start.

Now, on to my Weekend Musings…

DIY Spring and Easter Decor

I know how much you all love DIY videos. So, I went on the hunt for a Spring DIY video and found this one for you. What I like about it, is you don’t have to have a lot of money to make the decor. You can go to your local Dollar Tree or craft store to get these materials. Then, change your few dollars into 30 dollar decor pieces. With a little effort, you can create something beautiful and unique for your home.

It’s so amazing what you can do if you have a little time and patience. Remember to save empty tubes, jars, or other materials for future DIY projects—they can come in handy! These projects are also great for kids to participate in, making it a wonderful family activity. Have fun!

13 Spring Recipes to Add to Your Cooking List

Andrew Purcell for The New York Times. Food Stylist: Carrie Purcell.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, I have been cooking many meals for my Ultimate Concierge and myself. In order to keep the kitchen spicey, I make sure to try new recipes often. I truly enjoy the process of enjoying new recipes and sharing delicious meals together. Sometime’s they are 30-minute meals, and other times I like to try recipes that are more hard and add more of a 5-star flare to our lives. Some recipes have become favorites that I have made many times over the years.

If you are looking for more recipes to make for yourself, your partner, or your family, make sure to check out this list of 13 Spring Recipes. It includes grilled chicken skewers, asparagus, goat cheese, and Tarragon Tart, plus much more! I know you will find something you will enjoy. Let’s get cooking!

Virtual Tour of Tokyo & the Famous Cherry Blossoms

Since international travel is mostly out of the question still, I wanted to share this virtual walking tour of Tokyo and the famous Cherry Blossoms in honor of Spring. It was so interesting to learn about Tokyo and the cherry blossoms through this experience. The Cherry Blossoms are such a sight to see, and I hope one day we all get to see them in person again!

But, if you never plan to travel there, or want to get your travel fix right now, virtual travel through YouTube is the way to go. I watched the virtual tour on YouTube and encourage you to watch it too. As I viewed the beautiful Cherry Blossoms, I suddenly felt a sense of wonder and longing. I hope you enjoyed walking through Tokyo as much as I did. Such beautiful Cherry Blossoms!

Mindfulness and Meditation Practices for Spring Renewal

As we welcome the new season, it’s the perfect time to focus on mindfulness and meditation practices that bring renewal and hope into our lives. Spring is a season of fresh beginnings, and by making space for these practices, we can invite more joy, beauty, and clarity into each day. Whether you’re looking to reduce stress after a long week, improve your focus, or simply feel more connected to your body and mind, mindfulness and meditation can be a wonderful addition to your daily routine.

One simple way to start is by taking a few minutes each day to focus on your breath. Find a quiet corner in your home, sit comfortably, and gently close your eyes. As you breathe in, imagine drawing in the energy and beauty of the season—feel the hope and freshness of spring filling your body. As you exhale, let go of any tension or worries from the past week. This mindful breathing can help you feel more centered and present, no matter how busy life gets.

Another lovely practice is to take a mindful walk outdoors. As you stroll through your neighborhood or a local park, pay close attention to the sights, sounds, and scents around you. Notice the flowers blooming, the warmth of the sun, and the gentle breeze. Each step can be a reminder to live in the moment and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. Walking mindfully is not only good for your body, but it also brings a sense of peace and joy to your mind.

Meditation is another powerful tool for spring renewal. Even just a few minutes of sitting in silence can help clear your head and bring a sense of calm. You might try a guided meditation on YouTube, or simply sit quietly and focus on your breath. As you meditate, picture any stress or negative thoughts leaving your body, making room for new ideas and inspiration. Reading an informative book about mindfulness or listening to calming music can also deepen your practice and expand your knowledge.

If you’re looking for more ways to bring mindfulness into your life, consider gentle movement practices like yoga or tai chi. These activities help you connect with your body and mind, and can be a fun way to start or end your day. You might also enjoy reading a book about meditation, or joining a virtual symposium or workshop to learn from others and share your experiences.

As Friday arrives and you plan your weekend, remember to set aside time for yourself. Whether you’re spending hours with family, reading a new book, or simply taking a walk, make your well-being a priority. Reflect on your week, write down your thoughts, or talk with a friend about what you’ve discovered. Each day is a new opportunity to focus on what matters most and to enjoy the beauty and joy that life has to offer.

Mindfulness and meditation are ongoing journeys, not destinations. Every moment is a chance to learn, grow, and live more fully. As you move through this season, keep your mind and heart open to new experiences, and remember that even small efforts can make a big difference. Take a deep breath, embrace the hope of spring, and let yourself enjoy the renewal that this beautiful season brings.
