Beauty trends for women over 50 to watch in 2018

Not every beauty fad is something we as women over 50 need to jump on. We already have our established style and our “look,” right darlings? But every now and then isn’t it fun to try something new? You want to remain vibrant and visible and updating that “look” we took so much time to build is a good way to do that. So I have scoured the beauty magazines to find what I think will be the top beauty trends for women over 50 in 2018. Some of these are REALLY interesting and will be good for helping us protect our skin. Others are just fun new ways to use cosmetics or products to try. Either way here’s what to look for in beauty in 2018.

Pollutant-fighting skincare products

Products are now taking into account how to protect our skin from what is in the air! Many products were introduced in 2017, but the market is supposed to expand for them in 2018. There are many things to consider when buying products to care for your skin, but here is one more to think about when it comes to the health of your skin.

Products

Top left: BOSCIA Charcoal Jelly Ball Cleanser – Buy it here: $20 at Sephora
Bottom left: Elizabeth Arden – Prevage® City Smart Spf50 Hydrating Shield, 40ml – Colorless – Buy it here: $68 at Net-a-porter
Center:  Clarins Extra-Comfort Anti-Pollution Cleansing Cream – Buy it here: $34.60 at Harrod’s
Top right: Kiehl’s Cilantro and orange pollutant fighting masque – Buy it here: $32 to $39 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Bottom right: Murad City Skin Overnight Detox Moisturiser – Buy it here: $70 at Dermstore

Body masks

We’ve already written about ingredients that are good for you in face masks, but it turns out that masks for other parts of your body like your hands and feet will be bursting on to the scene in 2018. It makes sense, darlings, that you would care for your hands as you would care for your face. They too also belie your age.

Products

Top Left: Sephora Collection Avocado Hand Mask – Buy it here: $6 at Sephora
Bottom Left: Karuna Age Defying Hand Mask – Buy it here: $9.50 at HSN
Right: Que Bella® Home Spa Pack – 3ct – Buy it here: $9.99 at Target

Metallics

This is a trend that is continuing on in 2018 and I have to say I love it. Shine on, darlings! Read my story all about metallics here.

Thick eyelashes

This one is so interesting, darlings! Apparently this year we’re going to see a lot of thick lash looks. There are many ways to achieve this with aging lashes. Obviously thickening mascaras make sense, but applying a little eyeliner close to your lash line will also help give this appearance. So instead of length of lashes, go for the drama and try out products that make them look thick. Still try to avoid clumping though!

Products

Left: Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – Buy it here: $23 at Nordstrom
Center: Too Faced better than sex – Buy it here: $23 at Ulta
Right: Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes 5 Star Mascara – Buy it here: $29 at Bloomingdale’s

“Glowing” skin

This I am a little more skeptical of, but I think for the right event this could be a very cool look. Highlighters have been popular for several years, but this year it is predicted that gold will be the shade of highlighter to try. That will be very bold. There are also more subtle colors that will help you achieve a “glowing” look so if you try gold and that’s not right for you try a different shade before completely abandoning the look.

Products

MARC JACOBS Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter – Buy it here: $44 at Sephora
MegaGlo Highlighting Powder – Buy it here: $4.99 at Ulta
Milk Makeup Holographic Stick – Buy it here: $14 to $28 at Sephora

As always, darlings, wear what makes you feel good and throw away the rulebook on age and trends. If that is bold lipstick: Go bold! If that is no lipstick: Forget the lipstick! Inner beauty is what is key to real beauty. Have a beautiful day!
