My darlings, even though it snowed in Chicago last week and in different areas of the Midwest, spring has officially sprung. The weather all over the country is starting to perk up and so are the people! Therefore, my lovely readers, it’s time to bring our beautiful face out into the sunshine. Let us soak up the sunrays. With the help of a few spring skincare products, we’ll allow the natural elements of nature to lift our spirits and replenish our being!

Clean, Serum, Moisturize, Protect

I don’t know about you my darlings, but after a long dry winter, our bodies and specifically our skin are in need of revival. If you are just discovering my blog for the first time, or if you’re a longtime reader, I will remind you that a daily skincare routine is a must! As we age, we must protect our skin so we live a long, healthy and beautiful life.

As you know, each person’s skin is distinct and so our skincare routines will all look a little different. But for women over 50, it’s pretty simple my darlings: Clean, Serum, Moisturize, Protect. The fun part of skincare routines, or any routine for that matter, is that you, my lovelies, get to find a combination of products and methods that work the best for you.

How does one pick a product, you might ask? Sometimes it’s trial and error and other times it may be a recommendation from a friend. I’ve scoured the internet for you my darlings, in search of the latest skin-care trends. Here are a few that you might want to try out yourselves! Just always remember: Clean, Serum, Moisturize, Protect!

Do It Yourself Liquid Peels

My darlings, cleaning your precious face is not a new trend, but what is on the rise are do-it-yourself liquid “chemical” peels. If you don’t know what that is my darlings, it’s a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution helps your skin better exfoliate and eventually peel off. Chemical peels improve age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, and moderate skin discoloration.

Increase Your Skin’s Radiance

If you’re on the lookout for a liquid peel product that you can do at home, then you must find one that does not strip your skin of its natural life. A fantastic over-the-counter professional level liquid peel will do just fine if you can’t make it to your local spa or dermatologist.

I did some research for you darlings and one product that comes highly recommended across the internet is Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare’s Clinical-Grade Resurfacing Liquid Peel. It’s made of natural fruit acids to help remove dead skin cells and increase your skin’s radiance! Who doesn’t love a product that can elevate the beautiful skin you’re already in?

Plant-Based Products For Spring

My darlings, I’m sure you’ve heard of plant-based products all over the news and internet. It’s definitely the hip thing these days to use natural products and ingredients not only in our food but also in our skincare. I love the idea of applying superfoods in skincare and other products. There’s nothing like using the earth’s natural fruits to hydrate and heal our skin. Especially if you have rough skin that needs help healing after a dry winter.

Here is one trendy product I discovered for you during my search: this wonderful pretty-in-pink Strawberry-C Serum comes highly recommended! Volition Beauty has taken the natural vitamin C provided by strawberries to help brighten skin, get rid of dullness, dryness and irritated pores.  How wonderful is that?

Plant-Based Retinol

My darlings, many times I’ve spoken of the benefits of retinol and how it’s an important part of my daily skin-care routine. In 2019, a trend is to use bakuchiol, a plant-based retinol alternative that provides retinol-like benefits.

If some of you have sensitive skin and have been searching for a product that would work better for you, this highly rated Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum could be an option for you. The plant-based serum will help relieve dullness and uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles and help with loss of firmness and elasticity!

CBD-Infused Serums

In a recent article that I wrote, I spoke of the benefits of CBD oil.

A current trend that I see everywhere, my darlings, is the use of CBD oil in beauty products. In my search for the most current skincare trends, I was pleasantly surprised to find many serums incorporate CBD into their recipes. How amazing it is that we can use such a potent plant on our faces?

I think it’s absolutely wonderful. The power and uses of CBD are endless. I believe the trend of CBD will only continue to grow as more research and time are dedicated to its benefits. Now my darlings, in my exploration for you, I found Saint Jane Beauty’s Luxury Beauty Serum with 500mg of CBD. It’s rich with fatty-acids and botanicals infused that will help brighten, soothe and improve skin radiance.

If you’re looking for an oil-only serum (this one has only three ingredients) the Age Adapting CBD Serum has over 300mg of pure CBD. It works to clear redness from skin, reduce blemishes and restore a youthful appearance to your complexion. This doesn’t surprise me my darlings, as the benefits of CBD are overwhelming!

Protect The Skin You’re In

I’m so happy, my lovely readers. I’m happy because the world is finally recognizing the importance of sunscreen!

As you know my darlings, sunscreen is so very important for our skin. Especially those of us over the age of 50. There are so many products out there to choose from. A product currently trending is FRÉ’s lovely Protect Me Defense Facial Moisturizer.

We Love A Multi-Tasking Product

This product not only uses a hypo-allergenic formula for sensitive skin, but it also provides SPF 30 and happens to be lightweight. Another great thing: it also protects from harmful environmental elements such as air pollution. How wonderful is that?

If you need a little more protection from the sun, dear readers, this UV Expert Aqua Gel Sunscreen I discovered could help keep your skin from turning even the slightest shade of red. This product is lightweight so you can easily wear it under makeup and it has a bold SPF 50. Even better, it’s an oil-free moisturizer that hydrates, primes and protects your skin. We love any product that’s a multi-tasker!

Find Your Daily Spring Skincare Routine

That wraps up our spring skincare trends on the rise in 2019, my darlings. As you can see, CBD serums, plant-based options, and sunscreen are all in this season!

Remember, all of our skincare routines will look a little different from one another. Here are more details on the essentials I use daily as part of my skincare regimen. I hope you have fun trying out these new spring skincare trends and discovering products that quickly become part of your daily life.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these essentials, my darlings. I want to know your favorite spring skincare trends! I would love to hear from you. Join the conversation on Facebook.

One of the routines I’ve used for years, I read in a beauty book long ago. Baking soda! I mix just a bit with usual Philosophy Purity facial cleanser as a gentle scrub. Works without being too harsh. I add that to my beauty routine maybe once a week. I keep it in my shower in a shaker container. Easy peasy!

  • I am enjoying your blog so very much. Thank you. I do have a question re skin care. I suffer from rosacea and can easily “blossom” with the wrong creams. Currently, per my dermatologist’s recommendation, I only use Laura Mercier products. Which of the above would be appropriate for me whenI haven’t time to get a once-monthly facial?

As well as being insightful and wise.
Definitely doing something right! Perhaps it’s in your genes? Your mum looks classy and fabulous .
Any chance you might one day post a photo of yourself at what you consider to be you at your ‘best’ ?
Cheeky of me to ask , but please do🥰

Great idea. How about posting photos of myself in many of my bests! You know women. We wear many hats! Warmly, Honey

  • Irene says:

Now that’s a good idea too.
    We do wear many ‘hats’.
I would love to see a series of your photos.
We all take on different roles throughout our lives and do tasks to fulfill them. We tend to forget as time goes on.
It would probably evoke memories for a lot of people reading your blog.
Another task to add to your ‘to do list’ ☺️
