Basic 4-Step Skincare Routine

Hello dear readers. Today’s article is written by Guest Contributor, Jenna Gabat. She gives us a simple 4-step skincare routine inspired by a popular 10-step Korean beauty regimen. I do hope you enjoy, darlings. I know I learned something new!

Simplified Skin Care

Did you know that the 10-Step Korean Skincare Beauty Routine is popular worldwide due to its touted skincare benefits? However, not many people can adhere to such a comprehensive regimen, especially those who are busy or don’t have enough time and resources for all of the steps required. Here is, however, a simplified skincare routine inspired by the 10-step routine from Neogen. I guarantee it will deliver the same benefits.

The 4-Step Skincare Routine

This simplified skincare routine incorporates the basics, the most important aspects of the 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine. It is designed for busy people or those who can’t afford to use a lot of expensive products on their skin. While this skincare routine focuses on the basics, it can be amazingly effective when done properly and when using the best, high-quality products. It saves time and effort while keeping those much-needed skincare benefits.

Step One: Cleanse

Our face accumulates various impurities including excess sebum, dirt and sweat on a daily basis. Regular use of makeup also causes these particles to lodge into the pores, which can cause irritation and break-outs. Thus, it is important to wash your face daily to ensure it’s truly clean.

Ideally, you should be cleansing your face twice daily, upon waking up and before going to bed, with a facial cleanser that’s mild enough and suited for your skin type. It is important to choose a cleanser that is not excessively drying to maintain your skin’s moisture and pH levels. Strong cleansers can cause excessive skin drying and irritation. Pick a cleanser like Neogen’s re:p Natural Origin Gentle Pure Cleanser, which contains natural plant-derived ingredients. This cleanser removes impurities from deep within your pores without drying your skin.

Step Two: Tone

Toning serves various functions and hence must not be skipped in any skincare routine. Toners help remove excess impurities that may remain after cleansing. Toner primes your skin to absorb nutrients more efficiently when adding in moisturizer, essences, or serums. Most toners are also infused with skin-loving ingredients that add extra nourishment and hydration to your skin.

Choose a toner that is designed for your skin type and one that targets the specific skincare concerns that you have. Some help correct dull skin, others aid with brightening and many help with anti-aging. The possibilities are endless.

Step Three: Moisturize

Moisturizers are designed to nourish, hydrate, and seal nutrients into the skin’s barrier. They are efficient in preventing fine lines and wrinkles, as skin aging can occur due to loss of skin moisture.

Moisturizers are also infused with actives and skincare ingredients designed to correct and target specific skin care problems. There are moisturizers that help brighten one’s skin, alleviate oily skin, heal pimple marks, and various other functions aside from hydration.

The important thing is to pick one that suits your skin’s needs and type. As a general rule, pick a water-based gel, or light moisturizer if you have oily or acne-prone skin. They are easier to absorb and won’t clog up pores for people with oilier skin types. It’s also advisable to switch to using lighter moisturizers during the summer months, as hot and humid temperatures can make your skin oilier. People with dry and sensitive skin, on the other hand, may benefit from creamier and heavier moisturizers. They will deeply soothe, hydrate, and moisturize your skin. It’s also ideal to use creamier moisturizers during winter and colder seasons, as the dry and icy temperatures can cause skin that lacks hydration to flake.

Step Four: Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a very important part of a skincare routine that often gets neglected. The sun’s UV rays can cause skin damage and these rays are one of the main factors for skin aging. UV rays can contribute to your skin developing fine lines and skin pigmentation. Thus, it’s vital to remember this step. Always apply sunblock at least 30 minutes before going out. Choose a sunscreen that has at least 35+ SPF (sun protection factor) and a product that has ‘broad spectrum protection’, which blocks against both UVA and UVB rays. One product I like is Neogen’s Day-Light Protection Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++.

Skincare routines do not need to be time-consuming or complicated. It is easy to effectively take care of your skin and reap all the benefits by simplifying and concentrating on the basics. You must also choose high-quality products suited to your skin type that cater to your skincare concerns. I hope this helps you find your perfect skincare routine.
